The Committee welcomes the draft new children’s act, which is aimed at ensuring stronger guarantees regarding the assessment of children’s best interests and their right to express their views and be actively involved in decisions affecting them, especially in custody and visitation cases. It also welcomes measures to reduce conflict between parents during separation, including the promotion of mediation and co‑parenting agreements. The Committee recommends that the State Party ensure legal safeguards for children at risk of harm in situations of parental conflict, including by ensuring thorough individual assessments of the child’s best interests based on interdisciplinary expertise
